RODE NT1-A: Polar Pattern

The RODE NT1-A is a cardioid polar pattern, which come from the Greek word for a shape of a heart.

It’s a unidirectional pattern microphone, which only picks up sounds from the front of the mic and minimizes any sounds coming from behind.

Its advisable to put the monitor behind the microphone this helps get the best recording, below is a website link describing a bit more detail on the polar patterns.

RODE NT1-A Frequency Response

The RODE NT1-A has a frequency response of 20Hz – 20kHz, this means it could be used in lots of different performances. However, a larger frequency response can sometimes pick up unnecessary sounds. For example, in a studio.

It has a dynamic range of up to 128 dB meaning it can take higher sound intensity.

Also it has a maximum amount of pressured sound levels of 143 Db meaning the lowest level the mic could possibly be is 15 Db

The RODE NT1-A: Uses

The RODE NT1A can be used in a wide variety of circumstances.

For years the NT1-A has been used for everything from Vocals to acoustic instruments to hand percussion. It’s known to be the best sounding microphone on large body acoustic guitars.

This microphone is not only for vocals it can also record voice overs.

More info you can find is on the RODE Official website.

Reviews

Review from an amazon user:

5 Stars rating- I am so glad I purchased this product, I needed it for my ADR recording for my home made booth. It has a very good range and the noise floor is so low there is no need to apply a noise reduction filter in post. I also use it to record outdoor sounds. I use it with a Fetheat to get a clean 20db boost; and a zoom H4N4pro. To use outdoors I bought a phantom power supply that can use a 9v battery, as this microphone needs a phantom power and when using Fetheat , no power goes to the microphone. I would recommend this mic to anyone looking for an excellent studio mic.(ADR , Voiceover , singing and more )

Review from an amazon user:

2 Stars rating- It looks great however, it picks up the sound of everywhere. Even when used with a sound booth it will pick up static, and more. Dynamic microphones produced a better higher quality sound.

My personal opinion:

Recently I purchased this microphone in a vocal pack on gear4music, the standard of the microphone is such good quality it’s a lot better than the one I use to have because it doesn’t pick up any background movement or sounds. This microphone is perfect for my home music studio which is in my garden because it can sometimes pick up interference from outside. The RODE NT1-A vocal mic and pack is fantastic I really recommend this for beginners and professionals.
